Proper Spoke Tightening Technique

Recommended Posts

I need a refresher on how to go about snugging up the spokes on my new rims. I know you start at say the valve stem and then go every 3 or 4 spokes until you get them all snugged up evenly. do you do one side of the rim or do you switch to both sides as you go around?? Please advise......

Hi we have a preset KTM Fasst spoke torque wrench and follow the instructions -  1 miss 3 all the way round then 2 miss 3, 3 miss 3, 4 miss 3. We've not had it long but I've noticed that the spokes are far tighter than we previously had them with a manual wrench and they don't loosen readily, which had been a bit of a problem. I presume the same method would be used with a manual wrench.

Thanks man thats what I thought. Do you mean hit the 1st one then miss 3 and hit the next one then skip another 3 and so on....

Yes, we start at one past the valve, miss 3, adjust 4th and keep repeating, then second spoke past the valve and miss 3, then third past and miss 3 then fourth past and miss 3.
