13 honda rancher 420 fpm won't start

has digital speedo/odo readout that also shows what gear tranny is in - when it shows N, it will start and run- sometimes it just shows a dash (-) and it won't start no matter what gear its in.

It will turn over, but won't fire.

 

Usually after setting an hour, it will work.

what would cause this?
