1995 xr250r cam chain/tensioner issue

Recommended Posts

Ok got this bike finally pulled apart after much grief and not a lot of time to work on it (car troubles/house issues). So now (I have a manual for it). I'm trying to identify what's wrong with the tensioner. As far as I can tell it seems fine... it's just that the wedge rides really low!? Any help please and thank you!

When the rear wedge is sunk below to top of the cage, that's an indication that the cam chain needs replacing, that the chain is worn/stretched to the point that the tensioner is very close to being at the point in which it can no longer compensate for additional wear.

Do you know if the wear limit is listed in the manual? I'm trying to find how to tell if they chain is the issue.

What issue? You haven't said what problem you're having.

The manual doesn't give a chain length wear spec.. The fact that the auto tensioner wedge is below the frame is the indicator that the chain has reached it wear limit.
