18" wheels fit xl?

Hi guys, hope this is the right forum for my question. Steer me if not. 

I have 1987 350 xl with 17 inch rear wheel. Aluminum is rotting and knobby shot, so I want to convert to 18" now.

anyone know what year xr  or xl 18" will fit, if any?

86-89 XR250 and 88-90 XR600 use 18" wheel with drum brake. I'd guess the 250 used 18x1.85 and 600 uses 18x2.15 if that means anything to you.

Is there room enough under the rear guard, when the suspension is fully compressed for the bigger diameter rim/tyre combo?

My xr200 18" fits, 1.8 I think is hub size but 350 xl hub is totally different, probably due to cushion drive, that puts the brake stabilizer in the wrong position. So I am trying to find what fits without modding/lacing a wheel.

I can do without the cushion drive but the brake stabilizer has to be in the right position with the wheel centered.
