Intake cam cover busted

Considering buying a 2007 kx250f to fix. The guy says it was spitting oil out the head cover and found that the intake cam cover was in two pieces. Seems like it could be an easy fix but what would cause this and how expensive could this be to fix myself? What kind of stuff should I check for before buying it?

I think you are speaking of the valve cover.

The overall cover and gasket can be replaced.

The cam cap, retainer, said to be broken is difficult to find.

As to cause; a valve failure.

As to cost; 800-1000 for a new head plus whatever else is damaged. Piston and cylinder, another 500. Bottom crank and bearings, another 400

Very rough ballpark numbers.

Btw. It can be fixed easily ... if the buy price is cheap enough and buyer is prepared for the parts spend. Leveraging the Titanic comparison, you could be like James Cameron and do very well off of it if conditions and timing are right. [emoji6][emoji106]
