Top end disassembly

Recommended Posts

Well after several different jetting combo's I was able to get the bike to run well, but I wasn't able to keep it from smoking....blue unfortunately.  I checked float level, valve clearances, etc.  It was smoking under hard acceleration and deceleration so it looks like time for top end rebuild.  I got of hold of Terry and am going to send him the top end for a new piston, valve job, and 2.0 cam upgrade.  Looks like this might be my bike now instead of my sons:)

My question is do I need any special tools for removal?  I have watched tutorials and know I need to make sure I set TDC and mark the cam gears for re-assembly.  Anything else I should be aware of before starting work?  Thanks!

Remove engine and place on workbench before you try to disassemble.

Suggest to pick up a Genuine Honda OEM Shop manual (E-Bay) for photos and torque specs.
