Hi Folks,

New to the forum. Just picked up a 1980 XR80 and a parts bike for a project. Never rebuilt a motor before, but I figured the XR80 wouldnt be a bad place to start. Planning on doing a complete rebuild. I was told that the engine runs but leaks oil, and there is a gasket kit provided as well. I kinda wanna restore it to its original glory (factory-spec at least) although I do have places to use the parts bike to possibly turn into a ratbike/cafe racer project.
Anyways - just wondering, where should I start? What tools will I need? Where can I get a manual (and which one should I get)?

Thanks folks

Dan

The Honda service manual is a really good resource for engine work. Ebay is as good a place as any to find them.  I would get the manual first, read through the sections on engine tear down before you start.  There are a couple of special tools you will need, and the manual will tell you which ones and when to use them.
