XR200 Cylinder Gasket Replace or Not?

Recommended Posts

Bought my son a 2001 XR200 with a loud cam chain issue.  Took engine apart and found cam chain tensioner had snapped and the cam chain extremely loose and rubbing metal off the inside.  Bought new parts to replace the who cam chain and associated parts including all gaskets, but wonder if I need to replace the cylinder gasket below the cylinder if I'm not going to remove the actual cylinder.  Thanks

You didn't need to pull the head to fix that, but oh well.  Its just a paper gasket and if you havent disturbed it there is no reason to.  They can be a real pain to get all scraped and cleaned off.

2001 XR200R with a broken cam chain tensioner ..................may want to check crankshaft runout at the flywheel end at the crank.   I've seen one hands on, and heard of three or four other 2001's with excessive runout causing chain slap which broke off the bottom end of the tensioner bow.
