XR250 valve clearances

Recommended Posts

My Clymer manual and honda manual do not see to agree on valve clearances. 1991 XR250 RVFC

Clymer inlet .05mm exhaust .08mm

Honda inlet 0.10mm exhaust 0.12mm

Honda manual may be for earlier bike, but Clymer tolerances seem small to me.

what do people use ?

ok thanks - that agrees with the clymer - the honda manual must be a slightly different model of bike.

now i look closer it is different as the bike shown in the honda manual doesn't have auto-decomp - only manual, but it has oil in frame. does that make it 96 or later ?

I use the looser .10 &.12mm clearances and 20w-50 oil on my '91.  Too little or no clearance = burned valve and no new heads available for early XR250.

yes i'm tempted to run a little looser - does seems pretty tight and doesn't leave much margin for some inaccuracy in setting them.
