Yamaha TTR 90 Kick Start Rubber

I'm embarrassed to ask, but I'm going to anyway.  I bought a replacement kick start rubber for my daughter's TTR 90.  The end of the kick start is much larger than the hole in the starter rubber.  Per my attached pic, does the end come off somehow?  A pair of plyers would certainly chew up the end so I wasn't trying that without asking.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for your reply.  I should have been more specific.  Getting the old one off is not the problem, getting the new one on is the problem.
