black soot

Recommended Posts

OK Just a quick question I did a top end on my 2011 XR650L and now when driving for a day or two I noticed allot of black soot all around the frame at the bottom of the engine and at the front of the motor and it extends up the frame even under the gas tank. At first I thought it was an exhaust leak but I put in new crush rings and torqued the header bolts to spec. I cant figure out where the soot is coming from but it seams to be everywhere around the front end. My brother thought maybe it was rubber from the front tire but that is not the case as the tire is new and I checked it. This is strange and not sure where its coming from?

  maybe it is.....

I actually had my brake lever held partly on during a ride and burnt the pads pretty good,,didn`t hurt the rotor believe it or not......but no black soot:lol:

my second guess is head gasket.....

what do I win..

seriously though,,geeezzzzzzzzz  this should NOT be hard to find...it`s either an oil leak or the exhaust is leaking bad enough to find it..
