Top end rebuild startup procedure

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

Thanks to you the bike is up and running after a top end rebuild.

Took it out for a quick boot.

Now, do I change the oil/filter right off the bat?

The forum seems to be all over the place on opinions for this...

Didn't see it in the FAQ either.

Please ridicule me if I failed at finding it

Thanks!

Oh, I guess I should include what was done that may affect this.

Piston, rings, cylinder hone, valves.

So just until the 1600km break in as stated in the manual eh?

No, the oil change intervals in the manual are rubbish!

Dump the oil at 50 miles and the rings should be seated. Then do oil and filter at 500 miles. After that, just go with whatever your standard interval is.

I do a 500 and a 500 for break in, then switch to synth. You can break in with synth, but I figure why spend the $$ if you're pitching it in 500.

I followed the details for the break-in on my Daytona, because the engines are the same construction.
