2018 WR 450

Recommended Posts

Just looked at the California Off-Road Motorcycle Executive Orders for 2018 and it has both the 2018 WR250 and WR450 as red sticker bikes.

My local dealer showed me a letter from Yamaha stating no more green sticker WR's or TT's.

I just bought a 2016 leftover.

Well, it looks like there is a new sub-catagory WR line, and that must be why a new Homologation process.

For 2018 there will be a WR250/450F Enduro GP model.  It appears to be already un-corked, tuned up a bit, and with a few accessories. Undoubtedly red sticker.

.....but will they come to the USA....

They will have the YZ (track), The WR (wide ratio YZ, formerly the FX), and a 'new' model to replace the WR, more like a true enduro, that is street legal (2019).

Hope so. As of now they will have nothing green stickered or plated. They just discontinued the WR250R. A plated WR450F would be great. It makes a great SM, but it's hard to plate in CA.

Crazy! Unless you need a headlight or don't like frequent maintenance, there is no reason to buy a WR anymore. They definitely need a plated bike. Otherwise I might have to switch brands when its time for a new bike. California . . . Smh :(

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the 2018 WR450's still come corked from the factory?

Is the corking for CARB specifically or is it an overall EPA defeat tactic?

It will be the exact same bike as 2017.

All of USA is targeted for the 'CA' model, but it's not clear if that will happen.

CN, AU, EU, come un-corked already.

Actually they are corked in th EU as well but with a competition ecu from factory. The dealer usually asks if u want the bike delivered uncorked or corked when u buy one.

Yep, EU bikes come with all the restrictions you guys get but at least get what you guys call the 'competition ecu' as standard (set to all zeros or if the dealer follows the Yamaha PDI instructions to the letter, a severely restricted style of map).

Although some EU bikes get a CAT in the exhaust........although some dealers 'forget' to fit these at PDI!
