Dirt bike runs when the choke is on but not when it's off

Recommended Posts

I have a Honda xr80r 2002 and I recently replaced the carburetor and it was working fine and ran without the choke on but now it's not running hardly at all with out the choke on. I can drive it but when I do it will only drive with the choke on and it barely accelerates and bogges out a lot and won't go up to full speed and when I give it gas it sounds like it's gasping for something. I have also tried to modify the fuel/ air screws on the carburetor. Please anything will help. Thanks.

ONE BILLION POSTS ON THE SUBJECT.

You can't leave old gas in your bike. You must treat your gas and empty the float bowl when leaving it un ridden for more than a couple of weeks.

PUT IN A NEW PILOT JET

How long did you let it sit? For sure, try some new gas.
A common issue, like Krannie said, is the Pilot jet can get clogged from sitting with gas in the carb for an extended time. It controls idling. Pilot jet is in your carb. Can you get a service manual? If not, post some pics of your carb and folks can walk you through it. Make sure your air filter is clean and not clogged, too.
