KDX220R Hard Clutch Pull

Recommended Posts

I can't figure it out. I replaced the clutch cable with a new one in the hope that the clutch pull would be easier but there's no difference. Heck, it might have become slightly harder to pull. Please help. What should I do next? The clutch pull on my CRF150R, KX100, and KLX140 are so light and easy.

First, the KDX 200/220 clutch pull is never going to be as light as those other bikes in stock form. That being said, did you lube the cable before installing? Did you route the cable correctly? Is your clutch perch/lever in good shape and lubed?

If your answer is "yes" to all of those you probably have a notched clutch basket. Either file the basket fingers (if they're not too bad) for a short term fix or replace the basket. You can also add a KX125 clutch actuator arm to help reduce the stiffness of the clutch pull at the expense of a longer pull at the lever or you can go the more expensive hydraulic setup.
