How can I tell the size of my piston

Recommended Posts

So I'm planning on doing a top end on my 2010 yz250f. When I bought the bike the person I got it from gave me a spare piston. My bike has a big bore kit 290cc and he gave me the spare piston in a zip lock bag with no information about it. I didn't ask any question (which I probably should of) how can I be sure that this piston will fit without tearing down the engine?

I guess if you knew what make 290 kit it had in it you could look up the piston and cylinder bore specs for it, then measure the spare pistons diameter to see if its compatible with the cylinder as it is now.
