2014 Polaris rzr 800 blown engine

Recommended Posts

I run a repair shop in Podunk, UT, and love following people's posts and builds on here, so I'm going to post a few things on here that I get the chance to see. I had a customer call, saying he thinks he blew the engine up in his '14 rzr. I went to look at it, and there is no oil in it. When I told him that, he said: "I didn't know where to check it!!" Poor guy bought it used, ran it hard for a month, but never checked the oil because he didn't know where to check it?? LOOK IT UP! ASK A FRIEND! YOUTUBE IT! AAAAHHHHHH! So now he's looking at a $2k+ rebuild. His rear cylinder had 170psi compression: perfect. Front cylinder had 55psi....ouch.🤔. I put a boroscope camera down the plug hole, and found this. See the 2 pics. Those are the cylinder walls... I almost have the engine out, started it last night. If you peeps are interested, I'll post more of what I find inside, and post progress of the rebuild, provided he wants to do it. 170719_173729.jpg.87153f614a3e6396a5a004c4f7cbbc5b.jpg170719_173744.jpg.2b61d369dd6c0fb84f554aeeada86061.jpg

Well I got the engine apart. Crankshaft is bad. One connecting rod melted. Camshaft broke in half. All bearings were trashed. Cylinder skirts were broken. Pistons destroyed. Head checks out perfectly, all camshaft housings measure in spec. The customer opted to rebuild it. I'll order parts tonight.

Machine was fully rebuilt. He also opted for some new tires with the rebuild, it ended up being $3800 total. It was a fun rebuild.
