On my 04 yz450f I picked up a few weeks ago. I've noticed when I'm in fourth gear hitting the highest of the gear I get a lobe or slight cut out of my engine. I've been a heavy equipment mechanic for most of my life, I'm new to dirt bikes, is this what floating the valves feels like? Do I need to jet it? Carb adjustments? I typically ride from 6500ft to 8000ft elevation. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Adjust your valve clearance, replace your plug, inspect your stator harness plug for corrosion, and seal all the leaks in the exhaust, right after you replace the packing.

Now, you can attempt to do any fine tuning, if needed.

You have a rev limiter on your motor so valve float is not going to happen.

A 2004 however is an older motor and the cam chains do need replacing along with the tenioner, before they start to bind.
