650L excel rims, OEM hubs on a 600R or 650R?

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about fitting wheels on bikes so I wanted to ask if what I just bought off craigslist (650L parts) will work on my 600R and 650R.

Two sets of Excel rims for a 650L - one of the sets is loosely laced to OEM 650L hubs - and a set of Dunlop Trailmax Radial tires.

(2) Rear rims: 17x3.50
(1) Rear tire: 150/70R17
(2) Front rims: 19x2.50
(1) Front tire: 110/80R19

I have a 95' XR600R and a 00' XR650R.  I would like to make the 650L wheel set work on the 600R.  From what I recall browsing the forums over the last few months, the 650L hubs work on the 600R, but is the tire size too big?  Also, notice the picture of the rear laced rim and how the nipples aren't set properly.  Is this right?  The front seems to be ok.

I originally wanted to make the 650R more street oriented and the 600R more for dirt, but given what I have I may as well to both!  Will these rims work on the 650R and what's the best hub to get?  I'm ok with OEM hubs, but not sure about how the spokes will fit.

One. The L has 32 spokes front and rear.

Two the R's are 36 front and 32 rear spokes.

Three the reason those nipples are like that is because the nipples are to large in diameter.

This afternoon I called Buchanan's to order a set of stainless spokes for a rear wheel for my L. I specified .300 diameter nipples. The .320 that they normally send will cause the spokes to be canted as the nipples can't seat or sit in the rim properly

EDIT...

I just re-read this post. The XR650l rear wheel will fit the XR600. The front XR650l hub has a different rotor bolt pattern/diameter than the XR600. The L rotor is larger in diameter (won't fit) and also in a different place than the XR600.

Thanks - I think I'm going to sell this stuff and use the $ to get a set from Jeff aka 'Bolt' for the 650R.  Gold Warp9 hubs w/ cush drive rear, floating front rotor, Black 17" excel rims with silver spokes.  Iron Man sprockets from xrsonly - 15/43.  And tires I haven't figured out yet.  And chain!

I'll leave the 600R alone and get some fresh knobbies for it.
