16/41 gearing? Drz 400

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if 16/ 41 gearing is possible, I was told +1 in the front = -3 in the rear? Can someone confirm? If 15/44 is stock 16/41 would be equivalent to 15/38? Of course 15/38 is the simpler choice if this is true

Correct?

I appreciate your insight in advance.

Driven 16T sprocket is a better fit, the case chain guard will rub and needs to be trimmed for clearance.

I pretty sure 15-41 is stock on sm, 15-44 stock on s models.  If youre not riding freeways extensively, and/or dont have BB/cams, and/or your sprockets are in good shape straying from your 15-41 stock SM ratio seems like unnecessary work/$$$ to me.
