1989 XT600 - Jet Needle Question

Recommended Posts

Hey Folks,

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out why my bike is running to lean. The secondary is sticking open and won't close around 3500rpm. The bike has an irregular idle and popping or sneezing out through the intake. I believe this is being caused by an air leak, possibly around the throttle arm seals which I've ordered.

Here's the pickle. I seem to be missing the spring and a poly washer on the jet needle assembly. See attached images. There was alot of play in the needle up and down so I took it apart and discovered it's missing a few pieces. Can't order online anywhere and the dealer was no luck. The part # for the assembly is obsolete and not available anymore. Does anyone know of a spring I can use in there that would work? Here's what I've done so far:

- Cleaned Carb
- Replaced gasket on bowl and top cover (primary)
- Intake boots good
- Replaced throttle cables
- Ordered: needle valve set, main jet (#125), jet gasket, pilot screw set, throttle arm gaskets, short hose between carbs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
