soda blasting cases, before or after assembly?

Recommended Posts

thinking about soda blasting my engine.  Have seen where some have preassembled the engine first, then blasted.

Right now I have cases completely apart including tranny bearings removed.  Any issue with blasting the cases like this (other than they will get oily during assembley)?  Figured since the soda dissolves in water I could blast the cases while apart and then rinse with water to clean up.  After assembly of the engine I can just hose down with brake cleaner to remove grease/grime from assembly.

Thoughts?

I reinstalled my cylinder, head and side covers without the crank in it, taped off the reed block, stator wire plug hole etc and blasted mine....seemed to be the easiest method but still got a little soda inside...rinsed out with water and reassembled the new lower end, piston etc. Bikes been back together and running with no problems for a little over a month.
