Just bought the '18 TX 300, first ride today!

Recommended Posts

I plan on using this bike for the desert racing series here in AZ (AMRA) so I figured I would get the 2 stroke for the tight/ technical trail courses.  I haven't had a 2 stroke since 2005...wow have things changed (with the KTM/ Husky).

Unfortunately .05 hrs into my ride today, my bike completed bogged down and would not start (Choke in, choke out, fuel on, fuel off, air screw turned, etc....ya I tried it).  In Phoenix we are about 1,500 feet above sea level.  Getting the Lectron, Moto tassaniri, and drilling holes in the air box this week.  I'm sure it will be a monster after that.  I also will be running VP T2 race gas in it.  I will post more pics when the bike is complete.  I have a long, long list of aftermarket parts that I will be putting on the bike.  I will also be putting on the new Radius CX clutch.

I absolutely loved the way it turned, and how light it was though!  I'm sure once I have all of my mods on the bike, it will be awesome.

For the record, I also have a '17 KTM 450 SXF, that I also have set up for the desert.  That way I can pick and choose which bike I want, or different races through the series.

I also have a 2017 Husqvarna TX300. I have done the Lectron Carb, Airbox Mod,Mototassanari Reeds and you will want to think about an Expansion Chamber and Silencer. I am running the FMF Gnarly and the Turbinecore 2.1 Silencer. You will want to get the Intake Flange from a 2017 KTM 300 XC -w...It is 10mm shorter and will make the Lectron Install Much easier and will clear the rear shock..I am also running an RK-TEK head and the 4-2 Metering Rod set at 1.996" This thing just simply rips...

Absolutely beautiful done.  I already have the 2.1 turbine core on it (hard to tell in that pic).  The next thing I'm saving my money for is the Rekluse Radius CX clutch.  I have one on my '17 KTM 450, and it increased torque down low...not to mention the whole anti-stall thing.  It's almost like cheating...I'll get the FMF Gnarly when I bash in the stock pipe (which shouldn't take long with the rocks I ride on in AZ).  I will also be running VP race fuel (T2).  I will think about the TEK head after I ride it like this, but hard to imagine that it wouldn't be a rocket ship after the list of mods.

I just can't get over how light this bike feels and how well it corners compared to my '17 KTM 450 (which corners amazing for a 450).  It will be interesting to compare my lap times on the MX track and out on a desert circuit I run.  I will be doing a shootout for sure, however the 300 as I mentioned will be more for single track and close quarters combat.  If there is wide open spaces and corners, I will run my 450.

My dealer who does all of my work already called Rekluse for the Radius CX for the 300.  Rekluse said they don't even have a part number for it yet, but will in the next week or two and will ship one out.  Its essentially torque drive, with the EXP.  Best of both worlds.  Like I said...I have one on my 450 and its like cheating.  My suspension will be re-valved as well (I weigh 210lbs).

I'll easily be 5k into aftermarket parts before I even ride it for the second time...

Looking at picking up an 18 in the next few months...

So what was the reason it died?

I had the tubeless but I had 3 flats (yes, my inner chamber was at 100-110psi and my outer was 11-12 psi).  I switched to the nitro neutech bibs and they are amazing (and of course flat proof).  I will let you know how the Rekluse Radius CX clutch is in a few weeks when I get it.  I will post pics of the bike this weekend when I get it back from the shop.  I have the G4 steering stabilizer...awesome to have eh?

I'm guessing it might have been a fouled plug from being WAY too rich.  I'm a newbie 2 stroke guy...so again, just a guess.  I bought the Lectron carb so I can just completely avoid that situation in the future.  The bike is so poorly jetted from the factory, and I have heard of nothing but problems with the new Mukeni carb.  So either get a JD kit or the Lectron IMO.

The 18 is an absolutely awesome bike, you will not be disappointed...just so light, and so much fun to ride.  I bet I'm faster on the 300 than my 450.  We'll run some lap times on a desert circuit to compare this weekend.

Red Plates? Don't recall seeing this bike lined up at any PN events... Are you Pro or just like the color?

Nice, I was in Victoria today. Swung but Action Motorsports and did a little window shopping... My wife's parents live on Salt Spring where I've been since Saturday. No riding here and it's boring as heck...

Very nicely done motoxjeff...Who did your Graphics Kit and Numbered Backgrounds? What Metering Rod and Measurement are you running the rod at? I am running a 4-2 Metering Rod set at 1.996"

Can you give any feed back on the radius XC? Did you feel it wasn't as good off the bottom? Did I feel like you lost torque?

Did the bike run hotter?

Did you do the 280psi Belleville washer?

I was going to grab one and try it, but I'd like to hear some feedback 1st. I've had the exp core 3.0 on the last few 4t bikes and liked them for the tight and nasty stuff we ride.

For the record, I have had Rekluse clutch's on the past 4 bikes I have had ranging from the Core EXP 3.0, the Torque drive, and now the Radius CX.  The core exp does rob some low end...so Rekluse built the CX model.  It essentially combines the exp and the torque drive, so you get the best of both worlds.  I think it adds a little torque on the low end and is very responsive.  IMO a must have for offroad riding...makes hill climbs 10x easier.

The bike does not run any hotter than I notice (I also have the trail tech fan).  As far as the technical stuff goes...I had my local shop install it, so I'm not sure about the belle view washer.

Dynamic Designs did my graphics

I don't know about the metering rod...the local shop installed it for me and it runs perfect !  We are at about 2,000 feet above sea level.
