1987 Honda CR250 water pump housing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I am thinking about purchasing an 87 cr250 to restore over the winter. As we all know the water pump corrosion situation, I am trying to find the OEM part number for the water pump housing. I am also wondering if or any other year housing will bolt onto the 87 motor. Or any other tips that will come in handy. Thanks!

If it doesn't leak coat it with layers of epoxy. That will protect it from further corrosion. I've heard lots of guys do this.

Definitely don't buy a used piece of crap like that one listed on Ebay. Go for the brand new one from Partzilla. It fits with just minor modification for the governor spring. Easy install and aluminum that will not rot. If your Magnesium one is not too bad then you can take it apart and media blast the corrosion out. Once all the corrosion is removed you can coat with Marinetex Grey epoxy and then use Evens waterless coolant. You should get many years more use out of it. Of course the new piece is the best option.
