Kdx450 transmission oil

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 1982 kdx450 and I had to pull the crank case off. Greatly appreciate any advice on what type of oil to use with it. I've been told any 75w manual transmission fluid or 10w 40 motor oil works. But any special brands?

Wouldn't really recommend either of those.  A cheap and more suitable choice would be ATF.  You can certainly spend a little more for an application specific oil like Bel Ray or Motul if you like.

Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your KDX.

80 weight gear oil, 10w-40 would be good.

Thank you.

Any specific brand suggestions? I was reading on another pot a lot of people using shell.

Any pics of this beast ?

It's a little rough. Plan to put a little money into it over winter if I don't get something else. It's definitely a beast.

I would just be sure to get some that is NOT energy conserving, as that has been reported to alter the clutch plates.

ATF works for many. No particular brand.
