Helping a neighbor kid, have carb question

i am an outboard mechanic so i spend alot of time on carbs. i cleaned the neighbor kids carb on his 86 kx80 and when i start it it goes WOT. cant seem tof igure it out

firstly, did it start fine before the dismantle? if so....William got it...if not, drop a couple clip positions on needle and see if that helps....tip of needle may be getting hung up at needle jet?

If the slide is going in but not down all the way, the slide is in wrong, there is a guide pin that aligns the slide with the carb. Hopefully  you did not soak the carb in caustic cleaners as these guide pins are often nylon and not replaceable. Caustic cleaners can turn them into mush.

If the needle is simply no going into the jet, use your finger in the carb throat to guide it. At full throttle, plenty of the needle will still be in the needle jet so as to not hang up.
