Float vs. Fuel Screw 1981 XT250

I finally got my 1981 XT250 to idle without the choke.  Put in new Keyster carb kit that had an extended fuel screw to replace the internal inaccessible one.  Had to turn it out 5 times.  Does this mean I have an issue with the float level?  Also, it takes about 2 minutes to warm up with the choke on...normal?
