Brake Pad Question

Recommended Posts

Can you foul brake pads? Say if they got oily from a leaking fork?

Front brakes were pretty non-existent after a leaky fork. Washed bike today and cleaned brakes with degreaser and brake cleaner.

Took it for a spin, and braking was marginally better.

So just checking here, if I should break them down to clean individual components or just order new pads.

Thanks!

Yes, pads can absorb oils or other contaminates and lose effectiveness. sometimes it is surface only (like from greasy fingers) and Brake Klean will fix it (or sanding some pad material away). Though I replace the pads and be done with it.
