Honda intake valves last a while unless dirt gets by the air filter and eats off the hard-coat on the sealing surface. Once that happens, the valves bash up into the head and lose their clearance so they need to be replaced.

There is rumor of the 2017+ CRF450R valves being soft from the factory but that's likely only impacting the first batch of 2017 bikes.

This is my first Honda 450 since 2008. Just wondering if anyone had a problem with the valves? Out of 5 bikes back then I had to replace valves on 4. Thanks

25hrs on my RX and the valves are still in spec. No issues.

Trust me, I have been!!!! First race this weekend. I had 300 for most of the time I've had the Honda, been racing the 300, but it's sold. So now it's all on the Honda!!

63 hours on mine; valves have not moved. I check mine around 20 hours and then again around 55 hours.

Checking valve clearance is a pretty easy task. Even if you ride hard, you wont have to check for a while.
