Chain came off and slapped left side case, need help?!

Recommended Posts

Looks like you need a whole side case, seals, bearings.  If you haven't split cases before, now is the time to learn or it will be real spendy.  Did you have the front chain guard on?

That is pretty bad. You definitely need a case. Looks like the case guard was on. The bottom bolt is sheared off. The top mounting bolt thread is broke off. Judging by that sprocket that chain and sprocket should have been replaced a long time ago.

That case is trashed. Look at where the clutch arm goes in. There is a big hole that shouldn't be there and It will leak oil and let dirt in, destroying your rings, bearings ect. Defintely needs a new case half, which can be found on eBay fairly cheap used.

Damn, that looks nasty. And one expensive lesson to learn to replace your sprockets and chain in time...
Can I ask whether the sprocket cover thingy (I'm not sure about the correct term for it) was on it at the time it happened?

I just got a case half for the same year on ebay for about 200 bucks.. It took a couple weeks of checking for one to show up, but it did. Good luck if you're going to split one for the first time. I'm about to start on mine and I'm sure It will be a learning experience.
