Timing double check

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all, went to check valves on my 06 and noticed a potential timing issue. Is the auto decomp supposed to click right at TDC? I ask this because I noticed when the auto decomp clicked, the cam was here IMG_1156.JPG

However, when I put the cam marks level with the cylinder, everything was here IMG_1147.JPGIMG_1153.JPGIMG_1155.JPGIMG_1149.JPG

Am I a tooth off?

Bike was running fine before, started 1-3 kicks hot and cold. I only checked them because the carb gave me issues last week. Went to pull into the track and the bike started popping and died when I gave it throttle. Tried cleaning the jets there, which had a lot of gunk on them but I could only get the bike to run with the choke on with a little lean popping.

Put it this way, you wouldnt want the decompression opening the exhaust valves when the piston is at the top.. because then they would clash, thats why decompression occurs a few teeth before top dead center
