Who a good identifier at motor years

Bought a 97 rm 125, partial engine installed. Ordered a manual and some of the water pump pics in manual are different than what I have. What is a identifier that this is actually a 97 motor.

frame and engine number ?

The prefix of the engine serial number will tell you what generation (year) your engine is.  In your case your looking for J115.

Where about is that number, only number I see is starts with F114

This is inside left case if the power valve looks familiar or something

Been there.  At that point your left with spending some serious time on the net looking up part diagram views of what your engine should be verses what it is.  I don't have that much 125 experience but do you have any clutch & sprocket side pictures of the assembled engine?

I'm thinking/hoping this manual is a different year! My crank bearings and seals showed up just now and are proper fit based on ordering for a 97. Of course they may cover many years I guess.

yes they do, I have a 2000 I just rebuilt and I used seals from a 1998

Crank just got rebuilt, he said the rod was the same as a 97, probably the same deal, covers many years. Few pics of right case, maybe something will jump out at someone

Looks like a 95-97 to me, actuator out of cover? 98-00 are internal

also has external waterpump cover

Biggest worry being parts of course. Rolling chassis for sure a 97 but ordered a bunch of engine parts that I don't wanna send back or tear up and can't send back. How compatible is the 95-97 engine.

if you ordered parts for a 97 you will be fine.

What you guys think about this crank gasket, is it wrong or does that not matter

def. not gonna matter. fuel air charge is heading into crankcase at that point any way, if it leaked at all there, which I dont believe it will, it will leak fuel/air charge into crankcase.

Also, I always lightly sand the gouges out of the crankcase around where crank sits, if my case has any gouges.. In your pic it looks like yours may. It may not matter but thats how I was taught so thats how I do it.
