2017 CRF450 fork

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to help out a very good friend of mine with revalving the fork on his 17crf450. The way it is diving and a quick search on the forum makes me confident about going at the midvalve and reducing the float, but I was wondering if a major change in float would require to soften the base valve a bit. Here is what I am planning on doing, and will appreciate any comment or ideas ☺. The rider is 165 lbs (no gear) fast intermediate mx, springs are .47 front and 5.2 rear.

BV:

18.2 -> 18.10 and clamp on a 17

22.1

24.1

26.1

28.1

30.1

32.1

34.1

36.15x9 -> remove 1

MV:

19.3x2

-> add 15.30 to reduce float to .15

12.3x2

12.1

14.1

16.1

18.1

20.1

22.1x4

Thanks to HomoErectus for posting stock stack.

That's a massive change , I would just reduce the float by 0.1 and test

Thanks for your time Marcus, I have to soften the fork across the board a bit at the same time as reducing the float. I thought the float on this bike needed a massive change almost down to.10 float?

As Mog stated, just reduce the float by 1 x .1 shim and try it. I have a set of the same forks and share your bud's pain.

Seb seems counterproductive to stiffen the mid and soften the base ?

Forks need to be a lot stiffer than you think,  I use a stronger mv with .25 float and stiffen the rest of the fork, stiffer reb aswell the chassis on this bike transfer the weight on to the shock I think, and a soft fork creates the shock to kick, from pitching on to the fork

He wants less diving in corners but overall softer, I'm out of ideas 🙃

What's he running for inner damper oil? And what oil is in the outer and how many cc in outer?

More preload on softer springs

But the mid will hold it up more
