Should I trade my just bought used 15 YZ250F for 17/18 KTM 250SX-F??

Recommended Posts

I just got a used 15 YZ250f for a steal a few weeks ago.  But seeing how used it is, its making me want to start with a new bike.  I have been out of the dirt bike game for many years.  This YZ is my first step back in.  And now Im regretting not getting a new bike because I know Im going to keep it immaculate.  Even more-so than my bike I just got.

So Im asking would it be worth trading in my 15YZ250f for at least a 2017 250SX-f?  I would be financing about $4996 out the door.  That includes my trade.  Not a bad deal for a $8600+TT and setup.  Or $500 more for a 2018.  Im thinking I really want to.  But I own my YZ and I really havent ridden it more than up and down the street here in my subdivision.  Sounds stupid??  I have the means and I really want a new bike.  No scratches or rash on it and I will know exactly how its being maintained and ridden.

Keep th yz and ride it.  Especially if you are just getting back into riding.  You can get new plastic for it and clean it up.  $150-$300 for cosmetics on a dirt bike or spend $5000+ just for something cleaner to me seems silly.  After riding a bit if you still want a new bike the value of the Yz wont have changed much but the new ktm can be had used for a good deal.

I wouldn't bother myself. Find your feet on the yzf to be sure you have the time and desire to get back into the sport before you tie yourself to debt.

I brought a brand new fe 350 this year and borrowed half its value on a loan. It's was great buying a brand new bike and I thought I could keep it looking mint but alas, it's now looking like it's 3 years old and I can't clean it any better.

So my point is that a new bike will look the same as your yzf in a few months

This is hilarious.......

You're over in the yamaha forum talking that you can't get the yamaha to start by the kickstart in one kick.. which is more than likely, you. Now, you're over here looking at a bike with an E-start. Quit worrying about what you have. You have a nice bike, get out and ride it instead of staying on forums and hitting the pavement. You're overthinking everything and you're not going to buy your way to success. You'll have to relearn all the "skill" you said you used to have.

Also, you'd have $5k left over to make up in difference? That's insane, you're getting taken and they're not even buying you dinner. https://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/Hanover-Powersports-2821436/listing/2017-KTM-250-SX-F-122538368  $6699. https://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/Bmw-Motorcycles-of-Countryside-2948212/listing/2017-KTM-250-SX-F-120759595 $7298 and call for pricing (lower!). https://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/World-of-Powersports-2934814/listing/2017-KTM-250-SX-F-121092335 $6999. https://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/World-of-Powersports-2934814/listing/2017-KTM-250SX-F-250-SX-F-121092358 $6734. https://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/Owen-Motor-Sports-871650/listing/2017-KTM-250-SX-F-119942337 $6594. Those are all brand new bikes..... your dealer saw you coming.

Thanks?  I guess.  Your post does have some good info, but you are making some serious ASSumptions.  I was a 125//250B rider for many years back in the day.  Never threw a leg over a 4s.  I just assumed you were supposed to kick the hell out of them like with the old 2s bikes.  But after some time of research, I found out the proper procedure.  But no matter how I kick it, it still takes a while to start.  Thats why i was asking about it.

And yes a bike with the electric start would be great.  I wont want to waste an hour's worth of energy on starting a bike.  Im not getting any younger lol.  Im not in the minority either.  People are loving electric on MX bikes.

But thank you for those links.  There are some great deals out there and I think Im going to call on some of those.  If I get what I need from mine on trade, I should be coming out of pocket for no more than like $2k.  But Im not going to be getting retail for mine on trade you know.  We will see what happens.
