1987 YZ125 Shock Rebuild Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello all-

My son has a 1987 YZ125 that just lost its rear shock--oil everywhere.  Unless someone can point me to an aftermarket replacement or what other models are swapable, we are in for a rebuilld.  I understand Race-Tech has parts for the rebuild and can do the work as well.  Is there anyone else out there that also does this type of work?

Thanks

I had my 86 yz125 shock rebuilt, same shock...the seals blew out...oil spewed itself...recetech do a replacement, but I think my suspension guy used some off a later model as they were a better design and fitted right up...

they are a great handling bike, I use mine in classic pre 90's racing

Bottoming out the rear shock can force dirt trough the seal and cause leakage be aware of this, let a pro do the shock rebuild it takes special tools and oil to  be correctly done! it'll be safer that way just tell them you're wieght and abilities like what type of riding you do. Good luck. I've done my own but i was well educated!  And trained! With the correct tools!
