I have a gouge in my rear mousse, will this give me problems?

I broke the rear hub on my XR650R. I pulled off the tire and found this gouge in the mousse. The mousse has about 1000 miles on it and is still very ridable.

This might have been done when the garage installed it, or when I took it off. 

If I put this back on, am I going to have problems? Will the mousse break down more? faster?
