Poor mpg - GasGas EC 300 Six Days 2011

My bike has been having a very poor (i think) MPG.

I can only ride about 65km/40miles before hiting reserve.

I don't know what kind of jetting I have now has I've bought the bike used.

It's a 2011 GasGas EC 300 Six Days.

I ride mixed terrain at a "medium" throtle.

Does anyone know where to start looking or if this is normal?

Thank you.

How big is the tank? I think it’s fairly common for smokers to get about 25 mpg riding off-road, whereas a thumper of the same displacement will get closer to 35 mpg on the same trails.

There are things that can be done to get better mileage though, but first we need to know what kind of mileage you are getting now.

The tank is 9,5 liters. Reserve is about 1,5L.

By my calculations, that would add up to 12,3L/100km, or around 23 mpg.

Need to jet the bike , Suzuki needles and correct pilot and main jets will have it sipping gas instead of gusling it

After correcting the jetting and using the correct needle, you may want to consider setting the squish to 1mm.

Now I'm getting around 90km with a full tank.

Finally could see the jetting I have as I had stripped bolts on the way.

stock needle
172 Main
38 pilot

Its the 38mm carb.

I don't know what is the "#7 slide" you're talking about. Could you explain?

Also, I have a spare NECW needle as everyone says its better for the Gassers. Would it be ok just to replace it or do I have to change the rest too?

Thank you.

If I replace the stock needle with the NECW would I need to change anything else?

Sometimes you might need to go up a size or 2 on the pilot and down 2-3 sizes on the main

Change ONE thing at a time then test. The result will tell you what is needed.
