17 250 sxf fuel pump relay

Hi all, 24 hours on bike, last 2 times out it ran like it was running out of fuel/clogged inj..

I removed the pump and tested it 54psi and flowing great unrestricted. Cleaned injecter and tested my condenser.

On my next ride it did it again, this time I looked for a blink code, there was 4 long 1 short.

According to manual it's a fuel pump relay issue?

Has anyone had this issue and, if so, any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks

Edit..It does run and has 13v at pump at idle.

The relays are known to be problematic on the ktm older ones , might be the same relay

Weird I have a 17sxf hopefully I don't get the same issue. I'm at 12 hours atm if you find the solution please post here.

Have you checked all connections? Fuel pump and otherwise?

Yes. I had the fuel pump out and put in a bucket of water with a gauge on it (static) and looked for any leaks. Took the regulator out and tested that too.

This bike has never run the way it should? No top end power, I've always had to short shift it.

At the 5ish hour mark, I took the pump out and it had the typical kink in between the filter and regulator manifold and I replaced that short piece...

So, I tried the fuel pump relay off of my 450, still not right. I also noticed that I get the same flash code if the elec tank plug is disconnected.

I ordered the fuel line quick connects so that I could test pressure with the bike running and I got them this afternoon and tested.

It will not maintain pressure when the throttle is pegged (fuel filters are clean). The pressure drops to 20 psi and pump voltage is @13ish.

Tested on 450 with the 250 relay and it maintains a steady 50 psi with the throttle pinned..... I'm thinking it's possibly a bad pump? since the ecu responds to the pump electrically???

Next step...450 tank...I hope it's that simple, because I haven't been impressed with this bike yet.

Whoa I am really sorry to hear about that. Contact KTM direct and they usually are down to take care of you and seem curious about issues customers have and care..not personal experience but a close friend.

That would be my next step, try another tank to isolate the problem. If the fuel pump is it, take a trip to the dealer and file a warranty claim...

Ya man defenitly talk to the dealer and try to have them cover it. Sucks that your having these issues because I'm loving my 17 250sxf

I'm going to talk to them. I've had the bike for a year this month, not sure if they'll do anything at this point? But I'll try.

Put my 450 tank on and all is good. I should have gotten that pressure gauge set up a long time ago. Rode it on the street and it felt good, but don't want to fry my tire, the front end lifted in 3rd gear. And the throttle response seems better than it's ever been :)

Out of 5 FI sxf's that I've had, this is the first one that has had a pump issue. I believe that this pump has been faulty the entire time, but just got worse recently.

Thanks for the replies...

Glad you found the cause man I wish you luck with those dealers haha. Ya the bike is insanely powerful for a 250 and revs to the moon! Hope you get to rip on it soon!

Update.

Bike pulls hard, right up to the rev limiter, for the first time ever.

Replaced only the pump, not the entire assy.

Could you point me in the direction ofnhoe to do this on my 17 450 sxf. I like to keep up on maintainance and want to know how you did this. Thanks.
