2009 WR250F odometer electronic pickup?

Recommended Posts

I've got an electronic odometer from a 2009 WR250f that I want to fit to an XR650 Honda.

Does anyone know how the odometer pickup works that is mounted down by the hub?

There are 3 wires. Using a buzz light, (on another Yamaha) I'm thinking there's a diode between two of the wires b/c I get open in one direction and some resistance in the other when switching the leads. Owners manual schematic not much help.

I was hoping it was reed switch type of pickup, but must be something different. Hoping I can replicate the pickup on the Honda to make the odo work.

Thanks!

According to my '15 shop manual, the Yamaha odo uses a pulse train of 0 to 5 Vdc. Also, there are multiple pulses per wheel revolution.

OK, making more sense to me now. Is probably a photocell or some such setup with the 3 wires. Multiple pulses required makes this a no go for me, easier ways to get a speedo-odo setup.

Thanks!
