New rings advice please

Recommended Posts

So the machine shop said the bore and piston were ok but said I might as well re-ring the XR250 whilst it's in bits.

The piston measures 74.48mm at the crown and 74.89mm at the skirt, so I'm assuming it's been bored at some time (well it is 1991) as i think standard should be 73mm.

Do i need specific size rings to suit the bigger bore or are the rings the same for a range of size, just gap to suit ?

I can't find any markings on the rings, the piston is stamped KR6, which i think means oversize according top this

http://predatormotorsport.co.uk/HONDA-XLR250R-XR250R-KR6-PISTON-KIT-.50-OVERSIDE-75.50mm/

but it doesn't measure that large.

Any ideas please ?

Does KR6 refer to the size i.e. does this mean my bore must be 75mm

I ask because there is this listing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-XLR250-XLR-250-R-KR6-75-50mm-OVERSIZE-Bore-Mitaka-Racing-Piston-Kit/292316279720?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

I've googled reviews of Mitaka and can't find much being said bad about them. But that listing suggests the piston is 75.5mm   but if my bore is 75mm that doesn't feel as if it's going to work.

Took me a while to get hold of Predator but Charlotte was very helpful - i just need to double-check my piston size.

Their listing appears to be for a Mitaka piston also, and although I just needs rings, i'm cautious about putting Mitaka rings on what I think is a Honda piston ?

any good advice on this please ?

I increasingly think i won't find a ring set for my KR6 piston and should replace piston and rings together.
