Your Ride Today

Recommended Posts

I was running short on time today, so didn't make a loop out of this climb like most of the other local riders do...pretty much parked at the top of the ridge, rode to the bottom of the canyon, and then turned around for well over an hour of climbing. I even got a KOM on the long section of this climb...it's few and far between when I get KOM's and even then, it's usually the short climbs that are all about max 5 min power, not an hour+ climb. I'm really stoked about my fitness improvements this season, I improved on my previous best time on that section by over 7 minutes.

1 mile down, 10 more to go to the top:

Turning around from the same spot gives you this view:

The rivers are full with snow melt:

Excellent job on those KOMs!

There's a couple road sections near me where I'm 7th overall... 1st is only 5-6 seconds away, but it's hard to find 5 seconds on a 1 minute segment.

I don't particularly enjoy them, but I'm much more competitive on the short climbs that last less than 5 minutes. Not a lot of strategy to them, just goes as hard as you possibly can for a couple minutes. Sounds easy until you're actually on the hill on the verge of blowing up.

Another climb heavy ride, although this one was on the MTB. I'm trying to do the 7500m climbing challenge on Strava, my job has been working against me, but I just need another 5500ft during my next 2 days off.

Holy crap!

I want to do it, but that's over 24500 feet!

I don't think I've done more than 7000ft in a month (and that includes a 6000ft ride).

It's not as hard as it seems, I actually enjoy it in some sort of masochistic way. Anyway, Strava cut my ride short for some reason today...so officially, I have to do get about 3700ft of climbing in tomorrow a.m. before work drags me away for the rest of the month.

No pics, but I found a perfect 10 mile lap with only right turns (and the only stop sign can be ran because it's a merge, not an intersection).

Good average speed!

Dragged my old carcass on my 160mm travel mountainbike through the woods for 26km on XC trails, trying not to become a bear's meal.

Took my vintage titanium hardtail out for a ride today. Took a while to get used to it even though I have the cockpit dimensions quite similar to my 2018 Carbine. The small wheels, short wheelbase, rake/trail, long stem, all made for a weird feeling. Even though the frame is from 1995, it now has a 140mm RS Pike, Shimano STX 160mm disc brakes and 760mm wide bars. I've put 1000's of kms on this bike until I got my first dually. While fun, I don't think I'll get rid of my modern bike anytime soon.

For me, 29" wheels have been a game changer. I originally planned to keep my old(2012) small-wheel trailbike for more technical rides once I upgraded to my 2018 Epic, as the Epic is a short-travel XC race bike. However, I haven't ridden my '12 Felt since getting the Epic.

Although it would be nice to have a little more travel, the big wheels really make it easier to blast through rock gardens. Along with pretty slack geometry for a xc bike, the Epic is better in just about every conceivable way. The Felt now serves as a loaner bike.

Finally got a computer(Garmin 520) to go with my power meter and HR strap. I'm a geek for data like this.1375212458_Capture_2019-07-15-16-21-03.thumb.png.e51bee063e70a6b4a22b4aff632d5329.png1962756707_Capture_2019-07-15-16-39-53.thumb.png.fe4cbe4bbc1c072ca35f658eb8cefd85.png916286778_Capture_2019-07-15-16-38-08.thumb.png.662c64a2c3bd93b13b801188b5b811ac.png984860302_Capture_2019-07-15-16-37-50.thumb.png.7af4b57a01bb48fad590075312656332.png

Wanna go really nerdy? Download GoldenCheetah. I'm still trying to understand it, but it's a very comprehensive analysis tool.
