SoCal Motocross Tracks to camp at for week/month

Recommended Posts

Greeting from Michigan, I hope this is the appropriate section for this post.

I will be headed to Cali in early January and I'm looking for mainly motocross tracks where I can camp at for a number of weeks. I've found a couple good leads such as Pala Raceway and Glenn Helen, but I would really appreciate some local knowledge. Are there good tracks I am missing where I would be allowed to camp? Pala seems a bit pricey but I will go there if nothing else, I am open to any suggestions since there are plenty of tracks and trails in the vicinity. Full hookup for my camper is NOT needed.

My trip is pretty open ended as far as a time frame and I'm not limited to just Southern tracks. Planning on doing some trail riding as well.

Thanks for any help!

You can park out in Cal city for as long as you want. Great track, and ride the DEZ (Jawbone, Etc). Sunrise, LACR, and Comp Edge are all within 45 minutes, and all really fun tracks. Comp more like an hour actually.

We will be out there for New years, doing just that.

Great thanks! I'll probably have to go to a regular camp ground as a base camp and drive to the tracks daily which isn't a big deal. Would be nice to camp right at a track for a couple weeks but doesn't look too promising.

You can park right outside the track @ Cal city.  You can also ride your moto into town and get a pizza gas etc. Thats pretty much unheard of in California.  Gorman gets into the freezing temps at night, but so does the desert this time of year.  The Gorman Track is really fun, open every day except wednesdays. 5 dollars a truck load to ride !!  Prep _  Thurs - Sunday.  State run so you have to deal with spark arrestors etc.    Would be a good base camp, not very close to the other tracks except the one that Bobby Bonds runs out in Bakersfield. But once again tons of trails to ride also.

Cool thanks! Question, would I need a ORV sticker and a flag to ride here? The trails in Michigan, all I need is the state ORV sticker.

Cal city has their own permit.  I think you can purchase a family permit for around 50 bucks.  This will give you access to all the water you want, dump the shitter, and 4 permits to ride the desert. The track is 30 and if you show proof of entering the track you don't need the permit to ride the dez.  In your situation I would recommend getting the permit for the reasons above.

For Gorman, you can purchase out of state permits, I think it's 10 bucks a day to camp.  You CANNOT camp at the track, which sucks.  Have to camp in specific area's that are not close to the track.  This is my home track and Love it .... Also cause it's so damn cheap to ride a fully prepped track.  Gorman is about an hour from Cal city.  Maybe Split it up and do both.

Thanks man! Cal city website looked like they were only open on the weekend to ride, so I assumed camping was only on the weekend as well.

No, You can camp out there for months at a time if you'd like.  Yes only open sat and Sun, but like I said there are other tracks somewhat close. I think Comp edge is open during the week.

The Cal city track is surrounded by the Mojave desert.  Point and ride. You can ride to Jawbone (Famous spot)  Randesburg, Husky Monument, The old abandoned prison near Boron .... Highly recommend this for the kids ......

Solo trip so I'll have my freedom haha. This sounds perfect to spend a couple weeks.

I usually ride at Lake Elsinore Mx just because it's closest to me.

http://www.racele.com

Great practice facility with a vet track, int track, main track for $30/day. That's pretty much the going rate for all the tracks. They have a sx track open in the winter for pros so you need a pro license to get on and it's $60/day. There's an RV park 5 min away but it's kind of ghetto. I wouldn't stay there unless your bike and gear are locked up inside a trailer or something.

There's other rv parks close according to google.

Pala casino has an RV park right up the street from pala raceway.

Cahuilla Creek mx is also about 30-45 min from pala and has an AMAZING natural terrain layout and great loamy dirt.

All the pricing is similar but Cahuilla is only open on Wed & Sat. Most of the others are open Friday-Tues.

Milestone MX is open 7 days a week and has an awesome compound as well. Beginner, vet, main and sx tracks with lighting. Not sure where to camp though since it's right smack in the middle of an industrial area.

This time of year there's a good chance you'll see riders practicing at Lake Elsinore and Milestone that you recognize from Monster Energy SX.
