1974 DT 100 shift lever.

So just got back in from the garage struggling to put the shift lever back on my vintage rebuild. Anyone have any suggestions? It just seems to not open up enough to allow the the grooves to match up between the lever and the shaft. My thought is because of the cold weather. If anyone has any tricks/tips I'm missing let me know.

Thanks again.

If memory serves there is a small punch mark on the end of the shift shaft, this punch mark has to line up with slot in the shift lever
