XT 600 cam timing

Recommended Posts

First post here and I have a question. Pulled the top end on my 1985 xt 600 to change the base gasket and the seal on the oil pass thru dowel due to an annoying oil leak. Not wanting to pull the left side crankcase cover and rotor, can I time the camshaft using the the TDC mark thru the ignition timing window instead of witnessing the dimple on the cam crank sprocket ? Thanks,  Mike

if you take the side cover and rotor off, you will loose the timing marks. just look through the window for "t"

Thanks for your response Stew. All the info I have for this procedure is from page 114 of the Climer book which uses the lower sprocket indexing to a reference mark on the crankcase. I did indeed use the flywheel "T" mark and I am about ready for the first start since the repairs.
