Here's Great Drill For Novices

Recommended Posts

Find a large open area and practice accelerating hard then braking hard (without locking up rear or plunging the front). Practice accelerating out of hard braking. Then put it all together.  Focus on body positions and controls as if you were cornering.  But do not turn.

By eliminating the actual corner you learn by immersion.

Also, most novices don't appreciate how much braking power is available to them and start braking way too early. Braking distances required for speeds will be absorbed in the process.

That is a great drill. A long time MX guy told me that is the drill to make you faster. Maybe I should do it a lot more often. :^(

I do it in my garage too. Put bike on stand visualize cornering and go thru the body position/controls exercise in my mind.

great tips! I will definatly try some of that out. I read also about doing figure 8s on the bike by keeping constant throttle to practice cornering at different speed. Interesting stuff.
