Kdx400 Wiring

Hey guys I’ve decided after troubleshooting everything on my bike my issues are caused by a failing CDI box I was gonna switch over to a Chinese one that’s “universal” but the original CDI box has a 6th wire that grounds the stator plate I believe. I was curious if I could ground the stator to the frame and ground the new CDI box separately if it’s possible to switch over to a newer CDI. Anyway from what I’ve read CDI boxes are pretty much interchangeable and the way the kdx advances it’s timing is also in play.. From what I read the Ignition advance is controlled by how fast/how many times the flywheel passes the trigger coil. Any advice would help
