Cleaned carb on CRF50 now runs horrible (video)

Recommended Posts

So I cleaned the carb on my son's CRF50 because it was running poorly. To run the air screw had to be all the way in and at full throttle it broke up. So I figured the pilot was clogged. I soaked the carb and cleaned it out very thoroughly. Put it back together and it idles horrible and revs worse...air screw at 1.5 turns....to run it's "best". Any clue?

Sounds like a 2 stroke, I would take the carb back apart and make sure everything is clean and in spec.

I know you just cleaned it but sometimes something can go wrong during reassembly or a piece of dirt can enter the carb when you have it apart

Maybe I damaged a jet when running wire through them?

Highly unlikely. Before you pull it apart, make sure you have the ground wire between the air box and frame when you tighten down the air box bolt. If the ground wire isn't the issue, pull it apart and clean it again and look thru the jets to make sure they are both perfectly clear before reassembling everything.
