that top clamp looks just like a 2007 250F clamp,  but I just noticed  you appear to be using the  stock lower clamp ....I'm not sure that a good idea unless you've done some precision measurments to verify no offset differences.

Bricktop nailed it. The pre-2006 OEM top tripleclamp had cast-in bar mounts. The 2006 & up had the bolt-on bar mounts and 2mm wider fork leg spacing.

Outstanding catch, Doc. I never thought the mis-matched triples would even work. Sharp eyes, guys!

Hats off to you too, Colby; you are tenacious.

Haunt eBay for your top triple needs. Be sure it is listed to fit 2004-2005. The aftermarket offerings will get you adjustable barmounts which is a bonus.

Like the look of these tag clamps. Are the four stroke clamps the same dimensions as the two strokes for 2004?

Thanks for confirming. I am shopping around for a 2004/2005 upper clamp now.

No one has mentioned OFFSET in this discussion of trading tree assys.  That's the main reason I messed with the trade was because the later bikes have less offset, which theoretically should improve steering response, which my YZ needed BAD.  After all the monkeying around to accomplish it, I'm not sure it made much of a difference.

Spare sets are nice. If you are trying to get rid of them, let me know.

2004 top clamp is the same for 125, 250, 250F, & 450.

2005 top clamp is the same for 125, 250, 250F, & 450.

Applied Racing says 2004 & 2005 (2 & 4-strokes) top clamps are interchangeable.

I/we use Partzilla as a research site.  Click on the part number and is shows "related fitment".  I use it all the time.

Let me add to that, in the Yamaha 2T sub-forum, there's an explanation of the Yamaha part number scheme.  There COULD be parts sometimes that say no fitment because the color is different but mechanically, it fits.  Check out that thread.

Sounds like you have it sorted Colby525, if not, I have ‘13 YZ250 upper and lower triples minus the steer tube, and ‘17 YZ450F lower and 2 mm bored upper with 450f steer tube. I’d be willing to part with either set.

Offset on both is 25mm and should fit sss forks up to 2015 (I think that is when they changed diameter of upper fork leg on YZ 2t)

PM me if current approach doesn’t work and you your interested in other options.

I just switched out my 13 forks for 17 450f forks. Had to lace up new hub for larger axle and replace triples/press in YZ250 steer tube. I wouldn’t do it again!

New clamps are on. Definitely fixed my problem. My axle is no longer binding, but the spacers are not correct. Could you or anyone else give me the correct dimensions of the spacers and axle from a 04. I have some spacers laying around the shop. Thanks guys!

Just an FYI if you get desperate, I've purchased some axles and spacers for late YZ's on ebay.  They used to go pretty cheap.

Might be awhile because of my work schedule, but when I can I’ll pull the wheel off my 04 front end and measure.
