You seem convinced Covington is the man for usa in 2019......which is why I asked that question sarcastically......guess you didn't recognize the sarcasm.....and the hypothetical 2019 team would of course have Aaron plessenger over Covington based on 2018 results....

Southwick is a track where local riders can do surprisingly well against the top factory riders.....usually a lot better than local riders do against factory riders at any other track......it is a sand track but not as deep and soft as assen.....it's base is more solid so to speak.....

What makes you think an AMA champion like Plessinger would do better in Assen than a seasoned and proven sand specialist? Haven't we seen this with Dungey in Lommel before? I'd choose someone based on my reply to Zinergy about sand riding in Europe.

Plesinger is a great rider ,but I think he will not do well in Assen

Maybe....maybe not.....i think he can handle an unusual track far better than the ordinary rider due to his background.....extensive trail/woods riding experience so he is not a 1 dimensional rider who happens to be very fast but not able to adapt to terrain that he is not used to riding........deanevo keeps saying covington should be our pick because he does so well in the sand and i see that point but i dont think Covington will have the results in the usa next year to be battling for the championship.....and if im right he wont be our pick to ride.......they wont pick him if hes running 5th place or worse just cuz he won that mxgp in 2018.....either marvin pissed off someone in france or france decided not to pick marvin because he cannot consistently beat tomac so they gave the spot to another frenchman who they hope can beat tomac....only guess i got as to why muskrat was not picked again.

There's definitely some logic in this.  In 1987, most thought the US team was nuts for picking Bob Hannah over the reigning 125 champ.  But, the race was at Unadilla (where Hannah was strong), and it also turned out to be a mud race (another strength of his).  A 90% retired Hannah that was more than 10 years away from his last 125cc outdoor title came through and got a third in one of the motos (9th in the other, but it was a mud bog) to help match RJ's 1-1 and Ward's 3-3 for the US win.
