Starter gear cover

Recommended Posts

So I recently decided to do my first oil change on my 2018 klx250. Like an idiot, I unscrewed what I think is called the starter gear cover on the left side of the engine thinking it was the oil filter. I pulled it out about a half an inch and saw the gearing inside and realized I messed up. I was able to wiggle it back in place and put the screws back in. Now I'm worried I might of disrupted any kind of seal that was holding it in place. Is there anything i should have done to make sure it was re installed correctly, or was just screwing it back in place sufficient? The bike is fairly new so I'm afraid to do any unnecessary damage. Any advice would be great.
